Blue Note artist pianist Aaron Parks whose own new album By All Means is out on the historic label this autumn is an ear catching presence on the upcoming Fresh Sound New Talent release by Ealing, west London guitarist Tom Ollendorff. A single from the album called ‘Past Lives’ is out with the full album to appear in late November.
‘Past Lives’ is described as a piece about memory and the weight of the past. Other tracks include ‘West Lake’ inspired by a visit to China and there is a new version of Open House piece, ‘Three Bridges.’
Ollendorff who burst on to the UK scene with two of the most virtuosic and progressively melodic tradition-in-transition jazz guitar albums in decades with his earlier albums A Song For You (2021) and Open House (2023) featuring Ben Wendel among his albums is on an extensive tour to support the release.
What is in store is a quartet album recorded in Wood Green studio Livingston that finds the leader with Parks, bassist Conor Chaplin (known for his work on such albums as Cabaret with Norwegian saxophonist Marius Neset) and drummer James Maddren of Enemy.
