Here I stand with the fern, the bamboo, the begonia

Spirals and tendrils and rhizomes and roots
A wild inflorescence of strange, strange fruits.
The tree speaks: thinking about all the music that I have listened to this week the song that most stood out was the ballad ‘After Hours’ written by Scottish folk singer Karine Polwart accompanied by her compatriot the jazz pianist Dave Milligan. I listened again to it today. I was also moved by Polwart’s vocal on Robert Burns’ ‘The Silver Tassie’ that appeared alongside ‘After Hours’ on the singer’s recent album Windblown.
