Cream and Blind Faith legendary drummer Ginger Baker, the totemic free-jazz saxophone icon Evan Parker, and the Sonic Youth founder member Thurston Moore are among the big names announced today for the Walthamstow Jazz Festival, which is to be held in association with Adnams in the Walthamstow Assembly Hall on Saturday 16 February 2019.
Parker’s stirring Walthamstow Moon (’61 Revisited) released last year was a revisiting of the 17 November 1961 occasion when John Coltrane played the Granada Theatre in Walthamstow on a Jazz at the Philharmonic tour organised by Norman Granz.
Parker as a youth had attended the Granada gig.
