Full of delicate impressionism the Chromatic Trio offer up plenty of subtlety and nuance as pianist Mélusine Chappuis’ compositions weave a delicate spell while bassist Fabian Kraus and drummer Xavier Almeida do their best to inject some muscle. There is a lot to like here as the Swiss trio find their own way of navigating well worn paths and manage to avoid sounding like other piano trios which they in the main do. The quality of the writing allows them to do this most of all and there is a deft mobility that allows the trio to offer plenty of variety and ideas. Worth discovering.
