Jazz singer Naama on Wild is Love

Updated: 5 days ago

One of the very best jazz vocals albums we have come across this year, Wild is Love is US based singer Naama's fourth album to date. On it she is joined by Peter Bernstein on guitar, Glenn Zaleski plays piano, Dave Baron is on bass and is the co-arranger and Charles Goold is on drums.

Naama gives us a little fascinating background as to her thinking behind the album:

''My true love is performing and achieving a magical connection with a live audience. That rare beautiful moment of connection is really worth all the hardships that are involved with a jazz career and I base my song choices on precisely that. I always look for songs that will make me and in turn, the audience, feel something. This goal becomes challenging to achieve when making an album in the studio that will be listened to months after it is created. Therefore, I put a lot of importance on the story of this album, in hopes it will penetrate listeners' hearts when accompanying them in their homes, cars, on nightly walks etc. I figured, relationships, love, heartache is something everyone has experienced whether they are happily married, longing to find love or merely single and content. At a mature age of 33, I have had my share of heartaches and failed love but have also had the honour of experiencing what it felt like to truly be loved and to love, endlessly. Every song on the album allows me to tap into a different version of myself and revisit the emotions I felt while experiencing that stage of the relationship.''

''Wild Is Love illustrates the arc of a relationship from its euphoric beginnings to its bittersweet end, and ultimately leads to the discovery of a profound truth: that love, in all its wildness, is the most potent force in human existence. I set out to take listeners on a journey through the labyrinth of love, exploring its twists and turns through four phases:''

''Attraction - The electric thrill, the moment when two souls are drawn together in a dance as old as time. The questions, doubts and bittersweet agony that accompany this exciting phase echo in the music.''

''Bliss - As the relationship blossoms, the music swells with joyous abandon. From playful flirtation to tender moments shared under moonlit skies, each note is a testament to the intoxicating bliss of newfound love.''

''Heartbreak - Yet, love is never without its challenges. In this phase,  inevitable obstacles and doubts are confronted leading to the heart-wrenching strains of a broken heart which speak to the pain of love lost.''

''Truth - Amidst the wreckage of shattered dreams one finds solace in the realization that love, in all its unpredictability, is a force to be reckoned with. Success and failures at love bring self growth, realization and humanity.''

''Wild Is Love is a testament to the enduring power of music and love. With an amazing band by my side, I wanted to create a record that resonates deeply with the human experience. In the world of Wild Is Love, anything is possible—and the journey is just beginning.''

Wild is Love is out now and is issued by La Reserve Records. Read a full review of the record here
