In, what is a star-studded 10 piece - Dave O’Higgins (tenor & soprano saxophones); Alex Garnett (baritone saxophone and flute); Martin Shaw (trumpet & flugelhorn); Mark Nightingale (trombone); Dave Powell (tuba); Mike Outram (guitar); Tom Cawley (piano); Sam Burgess (bass); Simon Lea (drums); Pete Eckford (percussion).



Also incoming His Higness fronts a new trio called Monkin' Around with Luke Fowler and Billy Pod. Check their very more-ish rendition of Thelonious Monk classic 'I Mean You' from their debut recording out next month.



2 Jonathan Gee Quartet featuring Denys Baptiste, Watermill, Dorking Tues

Beatles loving pianist and singer Jonathan Gee plays Dorking with Dune label tenor sax éminence grise Denys Baptiste, Italian double bassist Mikele Montolli and legendary drummer Mark Mondesir - known for his work with Courtney Pine on classic 1980s album Journey to the Urge Within.

4 Katharine Timoney, Scott's, Belfast, Fri

Fast rising Berts scene vocals jazz doyenne goes from strength to strength with the catchy 'It Won't Always Be This Way.' ''Had a ball making this one with Ben Castle who produced it and he played sax on it too,'' Katharine says. ''Darren Beckett features on drums alongside Arnie Somogyi on bass and Mark Edwards on piano. We recorded it at Echo Zoo Studios in Eastbourne with engineer Dave Lynch and it's the first of many I plan to release over the next few months.''


5 Edison Herbert Quartet, The Bear Club, Luton, Sat

Guitarist Herbert is in Luton with bass don 'Level' Neville Malcolm, keyboardist Sean Hargreaves, a main figure down the years at the Woodman scene in Highgate, and UK drum icon Winston Clifford who was on 1990s Orphy Robinson and Annavas hard-to-find Blue Note gem, When Tomorrow Comes.
