Flamingo Sky

Best known for her tenure in the bands of Miles Davis and Jan Garbarek, Danish percussionist Marilyn Mazur, who also plays piano on some tracks and adds vocals, is here with rock-influenced guitarist Krister Jonsson and experimentally inclined vocalist Josefine Cronholm (bassist Klavs Hovman cropping up on a couple of tracks).

A dreamy New Age-y affair, songs with lyrics full of butterflies, humorous wordplay involving an elephant who “tried to use a telephone,” and even, ominously perhaps, a ticking clock, Flamingo Sky thrives on loose soundscapes, and develops a scattershot nomadic free-flowing momentum that sometimes fires the imagination but maybe not quite often enough to achieve a really rewarding listen.
