The view from marlbank
Art has value. Music has value. Jazz has value. More than we know. But does government realise this? Do private sponsors? There's competition in other places certainly for every last pound. But jazz should get more. As the jazz scene grows with new clubs opening up that's the area leading the way. Clubs employ musicians. They employ hospitality staff and an eco system of marketing, promotional and administrative staff. They are an all round the year presence and a physical place for jazz fans to gather and identify with far more than once a year festivals can ever hope to rival.

Top gigs so far this year - their factor in common: Gary Crosby
Marvin Muoneké, Mark Lockheart, Gary Crosby, Alex Webb and Winston Clifford – Cadogan Hall **** recommended

Gary Crosby Quartet featuring Cherise Adams-Burnett + Maddy Coombs trio, Blue Note, London ****
