Played Roy Tanglefoot McCoy in Lady in the Lake

Woody in the Apple TV series Lady in the Lake played Roy Tanglefoot McCoy (1920-2001) a trumpeter like Woody from Baltimore who in his day played the Royal, the Ritz and local clubs. He was a member of Sammy Louis’ Band at the Ritz where he earned his nickname Tanglefoot partly for his height, large shoe size and partly as a nod to Mickey Mouse’s horse, Tanglefoot. According to the John Hopkins Libraries website McCoy in 1942 joined Lionel Hampton’s band, with whom he toured and recorded. ”After a year on the road, McCoy returned to Baltimore, leading his own band at the Club Orleans. As a photographer, he took many pictures of his friends and associates in the Baltimore musical scene. He continued to perform until the time of his death.”
