Danish led elegance

Perfectly decent if not earth shattering jazz piano trio music here from Danish pianist/composer Rasmus Sørensen on a studio set made in Copenhagen. But again, isn’t it extraordinary the quantity and high quality of must-hear releases emanating from Denmark this year?

It’s the pianist’s third piano trio record in a couple of years following on from Balancing Act featuring US stars Alexander Claffy and Kendrick Scott and Traits that had the same personnel as here – Swedish double bassist Jon Henriksson and Italian drummer Francesco Ciniglio. Sørensen (born 1997) is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music.

Check out the trio in a stream broadcast in May.

Rear view mirror melodicism

Tunes you won’t hitherto recognise unless you happen to be an ahead of the game super fan as they are originals. I would say these are fairly melodic, middle of the road a little bit. It’s a more retro approach than say, reasonable comparison, Little North who on an album such as their Familiar Places displayed a pop and rock infused anthemic style.
