Video of the day features ‘Motion’ from Plural out on Whirlwind in May. It is led by Brazilian harmonica player and former Hamilton de Holanda band member Gabriel Grossi. Featured in the video (the track from Bandcamp is also pasted above), which makes deft use of split screen imagery, is an original of Grossi’s that sees joining him stellar guests in singer Jacob Collier and saxophonist Seamus Blake.

Grossi co-arrranged the piece with Eduardo Farias. The piece itself has a sunny feel that sits well with anyone into the music of two other jazz harmonica virtuosi, Grégoire Maret – wonderful on Ennio last year – and Deep Down from Ariel Bart while Collier’s rhythmic support in the vocals line is very Bobby McFerrin-like. Blake’s soloing later in the piece has a robust, driving quality familiar to long time fans who appreciated his work on the Kevin Brady Electric Quartet album Plan B issued on Ubuntu in 2021.
