English progressive jazz band Mammal Hands has undergone a shift in personnel that involves former GoGo Penguin drummer Rob Turner replacing long time member Jesse Barrett and a move to a new label.
The sax/piano/drums outfit makes a move from longtime label Manchester’s Gondwana Records to the German label ACT.
The first fruits of this new approach are to be found on Circadia, a track from which called ‘Alia’s Abandon’ is already streaming.
Turner, above right, joins founding members Jordan Smart and Nick Smart to form the new set-up. His high energy drum ‘n bass suffused style contributed hugely to the early breakthrough success of GoGo Penguin.
Mammal Hands’ 2026 schedule includes a performance at the Barbican set for late-April.
