For the purposes of this “European list”, “the best of” excludes UK or Irish led albums categorised elsewhere.
I do think there is a specific “European sound” by the way.
The conundrum of course is not everyone in Europe plays a “European sound” although some in the list certainly do find a path to it through a hybrid sense of specific local folk musics or notions of European classical music.
Reader, that’s your task – to work out the whodunnit. Explain why, dearest Hercules and Maigrets of the parish – in fewer than 100, 000 words. Hope you enjoy our list. It’s a chance to step back for a moment and re-listen to some gems at the very least.
