In the video playing ‘Grant Us Peace (Our Father)’ Christ-Stéphane Boizi performs with fellow As The Spirit Leads players tenor saxophonist Jacob Wilson, altoist Lauren Breen, pianist Kezia Abuoma, double bassist Tom Sheen and drummer Sacha Harlan.
Pretty taken to be frank listening today to this new debuting work from London trombonist, composer and bandleader Christ-Stéphane Boizi.
The god fearing one is true to himself and it works. It proves a sincere project built around faith, community and ensemble playing. The record, frequently moving in its intensity and passion, draws on the young musician’s gospel upbringing and interest in the jazz tradition, and introduces a set of original compositions that indicate a firm fix on shape and emotion in their design.
- Christ-Stéphane Boizi’s upcoming tour dates include the Fickle Pickle Club in Westcliff-on-Sea on 15 October, the PizzaExpress Jazz Club in Soho, London, on 3 November for an album launch, Brunel Goods Shed in Stroud on 6 November, the Bear Club in Luton on 7 November, SoundCellar in Poole on 12 November, St George’s Bristol on 13 November (lunchtime) and Hull Truck Theatre in Hull on 14 November.
