Applications open in June for The Brubeck Living Legacy Prize.
Run by Brubeck Living Legacy in partnership with the Royal Academy of Music and ECN Music, the prize offers up to £7,000 towards a recording project and professional release support. It is open to final-year Jazz Department students and musicians in the year after graduation, with the winner chosen for excellence in both performance and composition.
The selected artist will make an album with ECN Music, produced by Claire Martin OBE, and will receive support across production, artwork, marketing, manufacturing and distribution. The winner keeps ownership of the master recording and will also take part in outreach work at the Academy.
The inaugural prize went to saxophonist and composer Kasper Rietkerk, whose 2025 album The Happy Worrier featured John Parricelli, Tom Herbert, Jonah Evans and Rebecka Edlund. The new edition is dedicated to Martin Hummel, founder of Ubuntu Music, who helped establish the award.
