London trumpeter Dylan Jones is to release his debut album Statue on 26 June via Banger Factory Records.
Jones is known as an original member of Ezra Collective and through his work with Tomorrow’s Warriors. He was on Chapter Seven and You Can’t Steal My Joy for instance. He has also figured in the set-up of dazzling jazz rock mavericks alongside Ben Vize and the cats in the wildly inventive combo Pyjæn.
Statue is Dylan’s first album as a bandleader. It features five original compositions and draws on jazz, rock and film music.
Banger Factory Records, founded by trumpeter Mark Kavuma in 2021, is handling the release. Kavuma says Jones is “one of the most gifted musicians” he has encountered. Like Kavuma Jones is grounded in hard hop. The original trumpeter in Ezra Collective he helped make the band what it is before later being replaced on trumpet by Ife Ogunjobi.
Ahead of the full album release, Jones will release ‘Plastic Petals’ as a single on 12 June. Another taster ‘Joker’ is already streaming. Jones on Statue is with Hamish Nockles-Moore on bass, Harry Ling, drums, Jay Verma on piano and Daniel Kemshall on guitar.
