This is the first track unveiled so far from a new Babel label album that’s the work of influential Loose Tubes legend Iain Ballamy and a new gathering of players heard together on a recording for the first time.
A Ballamy and band penned piece and nothing AT ALL melodically or rhythmically like the Coltrane piece of the same name found on Coltrane Jazz (Atlantic, 1961), a moodily reflective slice of introspection that contains a strong improvisational feel that stems from a project called Molecatcher, there’s a sense of continuum that sits snugly with the dark jazztronica of Ballamy’s Nordic Food period particularly heard on an album of the saxist’s such as Quiet Inlet. With the Somerset based saxophonist are his son Charlie Ballamy and fellow trumpeter Laura Jurd plus bassist Conor Chaplin, Scottish drummer Corrie Dick and guitarist Rob Luft who was named instrumentalist of the year at the recent Parliamentary Jazz Awards.
